The Bear

Bear an Popova
‘The Bear’, what an interesting title.  As we first examine the title we will think it is a story about an animal, but as we go through we will realize it is a humorous play full of absurd comments and situations. Here there are two main characters, Popova and Smirnov. Both characters make the audience laugh through their actions.  First, their relationship takes up with a conflict but ends with a prolonged kiss.  Here both are hot-tempered, and their temper goes up as the play runs, in an instance, their temper reaches hundred and starts to vapor as steam, in the end, both are melted as a pure water. Once there are two flowers with different shapes, but in certain day pollen deposited by a bee and as a result both flowers start a new life. Here also love deposited as pollen in their life and they bloom as a new flower.

Notes on the play 'The Bear'

“The Bear” which is a one-act play was written by Anton Chekhov during the Victorian era. When we go through the play we easily find that it is a farce. A farce is full of absurd situation and remark. These make readers laugh with the silly actions and absurd comments. 

At the beginning Luka, the footman advises her to leave from mourning.
“Instead of talking like that you ought to go and have a walk in the garden”

The Lumber Room

The ‘Lumber Room’ is  a fine short story written by Saki a famous writer reveals his great knowledge of man’s inner world. He is known for featuring children in his story and makes the stories came alive. There for Hector Hugh Munro who’s pen name Saki is widely acclaimed for his short stories. Nicolas and the Lumber room
There are two main characters in the prose. One is the Aunt who represents adult’s world. Another one is the little orphan Nicholas who was trusted to his tyrannical and dull-witted aunt. He duped his Aunt as he was in disgrace. He made her believe that he was somehow trying to get into the gooseberry garden.

To the Evening Star

VenusThe poem ‘To the Evening Star’ addressed to the superficial body after sunset. Indeed the poem is an ‘ode‘to an evening star that has the resemblance on planet Venus which goes around in the second orbit of the solar system. In this poem, Blake shows a shepherd boy superstitiously supplicating the evening star to protect him and his sheep in the night. At the beginning, he uses the pronoun that denotes the second person ‘Thou’ gives an intimacy between the speaker and the star. Then he conveys the beauty of the evening star that is seen as one solitary star before the moon or other stars mark their presence.
“THOU fair-hair’d angel of the evening,
Now, whilst the sun rests on the mountains, light”

The Eagle

images-2The eagle is one of the shortest poems written by the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson. In this poem, he uses language effectively in order to explore the idea of man the relationship of the natural world. She uses the technique; he uses imaginary, symbolism, metaphorical language to make the reader think about the eagle and what we can learn about ourselves when considering the freedom of this creature.
“He claps the crag with crooked hands
Close to the sun in lonely lands”

The Nightingale & the Rose

Hence the bird sacrifices herself by pressing the heart against a thorn of a rose tree. It is symbolically wild paradigm that love must be sacrificial.

The Lahore Attack

‘The Lahore Attack’ comes under the prose passage is an extract from Kumar Sangakkara’s Colin Cowdrey Lecture delivered on 5th of July 2011 at lords. As a Sri Lankan cricketer he had the right to deliver his lecture at this event touching on history, culture and opportunities for Sri Lanka as well as a moving recounting of the terrorist attack on their team, in a bus in Lahore-Pakistan. Being multilingual and a fluent speaker of English, Sanga’s speech was a very eloquent speech packed with emotionally charged expressions. He has delivered his ideas about his role as a cricketer, his patriotism towards his native land, his relationship with his team members and others. It is a unique and genuine expression of Kumar about the responsibility as a leader, a leader in the cricket. Moreover, it brings out the qualities of Sangakkara as a great Sri Lankan and a great humanist to the world.

The poem ‘The Huntsman’ was written by Edward Lawbury comes under the theme humor. He uses the elements of irony and suspense to bring about humor in the poem. They simply help to depict the unthinking childish behavior of the hunter.The humorous poem has been written by the poets in order to make the reader laugh. They not only make us laugh but also give messages for our life. Most of the poem say something to realize the foolishness and follies in the society. We able to see ourselves in them. The realization paves a way to correct the behavior and to be practical in life. Particularly this poem based on Kenyan folklore. It carries a moral lesson that one should not talk too much. The poem narrates the story of a tragedy of a hunter name Kagwa. It is clear by reading the following lines that he is a man with muscular strength…say something to realize the foolishness and follies in the society. We able to see ourselves in them. The realization paves a way to correct the behavior and to be practical in life. Particularly this poem based on Kenyan folklore. It carries a moral lesson that one should not talk too much. The poem narrates the story of a tragedy of a hunter name Kagwa. It is clear by reading the following lines that he is a man with muscular strength.
