The Eagle

images-2The eagle is one of the shortest poems written by the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson. In this poem, he uses language effectively in order to explore the idea of man the relationship of the natural world. She uses the technique; he uses imaginary, symbolism, metaphorical language to make the reader think about the eagle and what we can learn about ourselves when considering the freedom of this creature.
“He claps the crag with crooked hands
Close to the sun in lonely lands”
As the poet says the eagle really high and it holds on to a cliff with claws that looks crooked and it is holding tightly to the rock. The pronoun “he” shows that he gives human qualities to the bird, obviously, it shows it is a male eagle and also virtues like strength and self-sufficiency emphasize it. Crag is a part of the cliff that juts out from rocks. They are dangerous for human access. The alliteration ‘c‘ shows harshness and hardness. In this way, the poet describes the nature in reference to him. According to the above lines, the eagle appears to be near the same height of the sun. It is hyperbolical but it makes the reader, how the speaker can see the bird so well in his inner side.
Indeed the poem imagines what the eagle world like and it imagines the world without people. It is clearly shown in the following line because the eagle is surrounded by blue sky. It forms a ring around it. The eagle sees nothing but blue but the person who sees the rock on which the bird was perch azure. That is a kind deep bright beautiful blue color. This associated with clean ocean water when the sun is shining sea appears azure and so does the sky. The bird is at the very center of another empty world.
“Ring’d with the azure world, he stands”
Further, the poet sees the sea looked ‘wrinkled’ like a shirt need ironing. These wrinkles are waves seen from a very great distance. The wave crawls slowly towards the shore. The eagle looks down from its position but he couldn’t see the tumult and chaos of crashing waves. He could see only the small land on water. The poem gives us the expectation that the bird would perform some amazing feat; instead, the eagle takes a dive off the cliff and loves himself to fall far below. It achieves this with almost effortless grace
“He watches from his mountain walls
And like a thunderbolt he falls”
It is a magnification show grace and speed. He dives off the cliff and shoots downward. It is the line creates a very majestic image and the words echo ones again the first stanza.
On the whole affair, the poem is a classic ace of nature poem. It allows us to explore the world from the eagle perspective. The high cliff and the sky are shown as another world. That is regret to heaven. Tennyson said up the contrasting between the sky and earth. The final line brings both together. The power of sky comes down to the earth. The poet has also chosen to a sign of gender to the bird. He must have a reason for this. The eagle represents kind of masculine ideal power solitude and gracefulness. As a hero, it seems more powerful. He holds his powers in reserves. He awes us simply by standing there He lives apart from the land but can descend to the level when he needs too. The speaker gives a male gender to the eagle because it would have been customary. Totally the poem is an old-fashioned portrait of a great and noble man.
